Preventing car theft
Preventing
car theft starts with you. There are a number of things that you
can do to discourage thieves from breaking into your car. We offer
many tips on preventing
car theft.
Of course, even if follow all of our helpful tips, there is still
a chance that someone will break into your car. Unfortunately, there
are still just some “bad” people out there. The idea
of one of these people breaking into your car can be very frightening,
but there are ways for preventing car theft.
Follow our tips on preventing car theft:
· First of all, if your vehicle does not already have one,
be sure to purchase an anti-theft device. You can get an immobiliser,
inaudible (or personal) alarm, audible alarm, or even a steering
wheel locking device. Even a cheap anti-theft device is still going
to discourage the burglar a little bit. Just make sure that you
always remember to engage your anti-theft device whenever you leave
your car.
· When you park, make sure that all of your windows are rolled
up (including your sun roof), and be sure to get in the habit of
locking your doors, even if you are leaving your car for just a
few minutes.
· Do not leave valuable in your car. If you must, make sure
that they are hidden in your glove box or elsewhere where they cannot
be seen. Do not tempt a thief!
· Parking in a garage is best, a driveway is second-best,
and try to avoid parking on the street if either of the first two
options are open.
· When parking on the street at night, park in a well-lit
area.
· Do not put your name and address or registration on your
keys. There is no reason to make it easier for a thief if he finds
your keys!
· Never hide a spare key on or under your car. Yes, it might
make it easier for you to get in when you have locked yourself out,
but it also makes it easier for a burglar!
· Keep a record of all of your serial numbers of your car
and its accessories.
· Etch the serial number onto your windows. No thief is going
to want to go to the extra trouble of replacing the windows.
· Do not keep your credit cards, driver’s license,
or registration paper in the glove box.
· Mark your license number on your car in multiple places.
Nobody wants to have to report a stolen car, especially if it is
their own! Following these tips for preventing car theft should
help you from having to. Of course, again, there are some thieves
that may still, unfortunately, be able to find a way to steal your
vehicle. Although our preventing car theft tips are helpful, the
only true thing that can prevent your car from being stolen is social
change!
